A few kilometers to the east and north of the city, the famous Amerrisque mountain range protects one of Nicaragua's most beautiful natural sites: a small mountain range 30 km long, lined with vertical cliffs over 100 m high in some places, and home to numerous remains of an indigenous civilization, probably the Chontales. You can camp for a night on top of one of these mountains, between tombs and the remains of pre-Columbian dwellings. The views along the way and from the summit are breathtaking.
