Declared a biological reserve in 1991, the Cayos Miskitos are a group of 76 small islands covered with palm trees and mangroves. The largest cayo, Big Cay, measures 37 km² and has drinking water. Legend has it that it is inhabited by the ghosts of pirates who landed on the Atlantic coast centuries ago... Getting to these islands is very complicated and costly. Fancy a little island paradise? We recommend Cayos Perlas (access from Laguna de Perlas, via Bluefields).
