ESTADIO NACIONAL JORGE « EL MÁGICO » GONZÁLEZ
Called Estadio Nacional de San Salvador Flor Blanca when it was inaugurated, the Jorge "El Mágico" González stadium, named after the famous Salvadorian soccer player, was renamed in 2006 in honour of the country's best-known footballer. Built between 1932 and 1934, it has a capacity of 32,000 spectators. It is the second largest stadium in the country and the fourth largest in Central America. It hosted the Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe in 1935 and 2002, as well as the Juegos Centroamericanos in 1977 and 1994 (a kind of Olympic Games for countries from this part of the world). Today, it's a sports venue that's not just for soccer. An Olympic swimming pool is located on the edge of the stadium, and the Cuna del Mágico, created in 2011, can accommodate 2,000 spectators for other disciplines such as field hockey, karate, taekwondo and volleyball. In 2015, the stadium hosted the second edition of the North, Central American and Caribbean Athletics Championships. Be sure to check online to see if an event is taking place during your visit: if so, go and immerse yourself in the atmosphere and support the teams or athletes! Outside of official competitions, the public can come to the stadium to practice their favorite sport. The stadium is fully integrated into the city's urban fabric, so access is easy.
