Monument erected on Plaza Salvador del Mundo depicting Christ standing on a globe on a high pedestal.
The Monumento al Divino Salvador del Mundo was erected in the square in 1942, in honor of the city's patron saint. The monument, depicting Christ standing on a globe, was designed by José María Barahona Villaseñor. Damaged by the 1986 earthquake, the monument has been completely restored. Locals gather here for San Salvador's patron saint's day, celebrated from August1 to 6. A gilded statue of Salvadoran martyr Mgr Romero also stands in the square.
