For over 50 years, a carnival has been held in honor of the city's patron saint, Nuestra Señora de la Paz. It's one of the most important events in the country. It's a time to party to the rhythm of marching bands, parades and the region's most beautiful girls. In the streets, tens of thousands of people dance to reggae, samba and merengue. The party's also on the menu, with a gastronomic fair.
