LAGUNA EL JOCOTAL
A 4,479-hectare lagoon with pastures, sugarcane crops, chilli trees, aquatic flora...
Located at the foot of the Chaparrastique volcano, the lagoon is home to pastures, sugarcane crops and chilli trees. Its 4,479 hectares protect the country's largest concentration of aquatic flora ( humedales, mangroves and wet meadows), as well as fish and 20,000 birds, including 100 migratory species. The El Jocotal lagoon is a place of great natural beauty, and is a popular destination for fishermen. It is not advisable to swim here, however, as snakes and caimans can be found splashing about in its waters...
