SITIO ARQUEOLÓGICO CIUDAD VIEJA
Archaeological site classified as a national historic site since 1975, containing the ruins of the first city of San Salvador.
Ciudad Vieja is an archaeological site located 10 km south of Suchitoto. It is the site of the first Spanish settlement in the region. Ruins still remain today. These remains correspond to the first city of San Salvador founded by the Spanish captain Pedro de Alvarado on April1, 1528 (and also his second city founded in Central America after Santiago de Guatemala). The site has been classified as a National Historic Site since 1975.
