Great feast of the patroness of Honduras, affectionately known as "la Morenita". Processions depart from the basilica.

Feast of the Virgin of Suyapa. The statue of the Virgin was miraculously discovered by peasant Alejandro Colindres in February 1747. Following this miracle, funds began to be raised to build a chapel for her. In 1925, Pope Pius XI proclaimed her Patron Saint of the country. In the 1950s, a basilica was built. The statuette of the Virgin is kept in the chapel, and is moved to the basilica each year on her feast day.
