The museum is housed in a historic building: the house once belonged to independence hero Ramón Rosa, and later became the headquarters of the Supreme Court of Justice. The museum's mission is to preserve and promote Honduran culture. There is an exhibition of national paintings and a library, although much of the collection and the building unfortunately burned down in a fire caused by an electrical problem in 2017.
