Gracias has three churches. La Merced, built between 1610 and 1654, is the most admirable. San Marcos, in the central square, is more recent (19th century). The Casa Cura (priests' house) is next door. The church of San Sebastian was recently restored. Next door, the Casa Galeana (a lovely little museum on Lenca culture). Adjacent to the Casa is the studio of Eduardo Galeano, a young Honduran painter nicknamed "Mito", who paints vivid portraits of rural Honduran life, legends and myths.
