A few strokes of the oars in the magnificent lagoon and you'll soon hear the cry of one of the eight colonies of howler monkeys inhabiting the surrounding mangroves. If you're lucky, you'll also spot capuchins, caimans, mapaches (a type of raccoon) and numerous birds (herons, cormorants, etc.). Several of the agencies mentioned in this guide organize tours (Moskitia Eco Aventuras, Garifuna Tours...). The park is managed by the Fundación Parque Nacional Nombre de Dios (FUPNAND).
