The fabulous "alfombras" of Comayagua's Holy Week are well worth the trip and are the highlight of the festivities.

Holy Week celebrations are strong in Comayagua. Processions are organized through the city streets, covered with carpets of flowers and dyed sawdust. Not to be missed on Palm Sunday: the "Lord of the Burrita" procession, starting at 8 a.m., recalls Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem; a life-size icon of Christ is paraded through the town, with people waving palm leaves in its wake.
