Made by the Spanish Moors, the clock was placed in Granada's Alhambra in 1100. After the Spanish conquest of Honduras, King Philip III donated it to the Merced church, then a cathedral. For seventy-five years, it remained in this religious building, before being moved to the present-day cathedral in 1711. The clock is thus the oldest in the Americas and still in operation. You can climb to the top of the bell tower where the clock is located. A guide will explain its history and how it works.
