PARQUE ECO-ARQUEOLÓGICO LOS NARANJOS
This is one of the most important and ancient archaeological parks in Honduras. Its existence predates that of the Copán archaeological site by a thousand years. According to reports, the ancestors of the Lencas lived here as early as 800 BC. The museum preserves important pre-Hispanic remains discovered in the park. Los Naranjos was an important city that influenced much of what is now central Honduras. In the main group of the highest pre-Hispanic construction (20 metres) in this geographical area where the Mayas lived, seven large main mounds can be discovered, varying in height from 3 to 20 metres. The main structure was a pyramid reaching almost 20 metres in height. Try to obtain a site map at the entrance. It's best to follow the main path before turning right (Junlaras path) towards the ruins. You can walk around the tumuli and reach the suspension bridge (a good place for meditation or fishing). Continue along the Gualiqueme path, then Mirador (before the bridge) until you reach the wooden footbridge that joins the main path (turn right to return to the visitor center and exit).
The flora and fauna are fascinating, and the park has been very well laid out: small museum, toilets, stone paths and wooden footbridge. A beautiful excursion to savor slowly, listening to the thousand sounds around you.
