This superb, richly ornamented Orthodox church was built when the town was part of the Russian Empire, following the partition of Poland. It provided accommodation for the many empire officials who settled in the region. This is the cathedral of the Orthodox bishopric of Łódź-Poznań, a must-see on any visit to the city. Built in 1884, financed by the magnates, it is bulbous, beautifully gilded and boasts a fine iconostasis.
