The canal links the Baltic Sea to southern Prussia over a distance of 80 km. With its five unique ramps, it lifts boats onto land to overcome the 99.60 m difference in height. Originally used to transport goods, it is now a popular attraction offering tourist cruises. Cruises from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. run in both directions from Elbląg or Ostróda, with the option of a stopover in Buczyniec, where you can visit a museum dedicated to the canal's history.
