KANU
Augustów is a town in northeastern Poland, in the Podlaskie voivodship. This region is known for its cultural and religious diversity, with a population made up of Poles, Belorussians, Lithuanians, Jews, Russians, Germans, Ukrainians and Tatars, practicing different religions. This diversity is also reflected in the region's architecture, particularly in the wooden buildings typical of the villages. Interestingly, in north-east Poland you can still find compact clusters of old wooden village houses, preserved in their entirety, which is rare on a European scale. The region's small towns and villages are also home to interesting wooden buildings, such as offices, schools and railway stations. Travelling through the Podlaskie Voivodeship, you can admire windmills, watermills, forges, chapels, roadside crosses and traditional fences in the rural landscape. Valuable monuments of rural architecture are preserved in open-air museums, such as the Countryside Museum in Białystok, the Agricultural Museum in Ciechanowiec, the Museum of Kurpie Culture in Nowogród and the Regional Museum in Lipsk. These museums also house unique collections of folk cultural objects.
