It marks the entrance to the Royal Way from the Motława quays. Built between 1568 and 1571 on the site of a medieval defensive gate, it was intended as a royal residence. However, no Polish monarch ever lived here. Now home to the National Museum, it hosts temporary exhibitions. Passing under the arcades of the gateway, the Long Market axis continues with the green bridge over the Motława to Attic Island. The Long Quai, leading to the medieval crane, opens on the left.
