This 15th-century fort once guarded the entrance to the Vistula, and thus to most of Poland, as the river flows right through it. You can take a tour of the ramparts, from where you'll have a breathtaking view of the shipyard, located just across the Vistula. Originally a Gothic lighthouse tower (1482), it was later surrounded by a bastioned fort (1572), and enriched with garrison quarters in the 17th century. You can reach the fortress by bus or on foot (20 minutes from Westerplatte).
