Built between 1754 and 1756 as part of Oliwa Abbey, this Baroque building with rococo tendencies was the abbot's palace of the former Cistercian abbot. Destroyed during the war and then rebuilt, it now houses the Modern Art Department (Oddział Sztuki Nowoczesnej) of the National Museum of Gdańsk. Little known to the public, the museum presents a fine collection of 300 modern and contemporary works offering a good overview of twentieth-century Polish art.
