RAMPARTS AND TOWERS
It distinguishes itself from a set of ramparts and medieval towers, most of which are currently abandoned and cannot therefore be visited. The Leaning Tower (Krzywa Wieża) derives its name from its 1,50 m incline, visible to the naked eye. Built in the th century, and then right, it served as the city's defensive wall. In the th century, she lost this function to become a cachot for women. In the th century, it served as a forge and apartments for dealers.
Its collapse is due to the thrust of its weight on sandy soil. On the other side of the ramparts, a garden gives directly onto the Vistula. Coming to the east, you can reach the ruins of the Teutonic Knights Castle. Located on the Vistula, it is the first castle in the region. Excavations have shown that fortifications in this place date back to the th century. It was originally built in wood, and then made of red bricks.
Destroyed in 1954, it remains the ruins. However, the pits and the lower part of the castle are still preserved. Sometimes there are cultural demonstrations in the cellars still in state. The three remaining medieval doors are the doors of the Monastery (Brama Klasztorna), the Bridge (Brama Mostowa) and the Sailors (Brama Żeglarska). On the banks of the Vistula, there are often boats that serve as bars, very pleasant with a beautiful view of the city walls.
