This pretty little chapel typical of the Baltic coast with its large pointed roof is truly a Darłowo treasure. It dates from the second half of the 14th century. St. Gertrude is the patron saint of sailors and travelers. Many scholars and historians have attributed the chapel's construction to Eryk Pomorski, the ruler of Darłowo Castle, who is said to have ordered its construction on the route of his pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 1424. The dates agree, and logic dictates that he sought to bless his undertaking.
