Built in the 14th century on a hill outside the city walls, the church has once again become a place of worship since the Communist rule in Poland came to an end. In fact, it once served as a museum for the Soviet regime. In the late Middle Ages, the church was used by the inhabitants of the city's suburbs: fishermen, sailors, peasants and Slavic settlers who did not attend cathedral services. They were specifically reserved for Pomeranians of the nobility and the inhabitants of Kamień's city center.
