JUVENALIA

One of the oldest student traditions in Europe, now copied all over the world, comes to occupy the streets of the royal city.
The Juvenalia is a large student festival held in May each year, according to a tradition dating back to the 15th century. In its current, rather recent form, it begins with a symbolic handing over of the keys of the city to the young people, who can then take control of it. This is followed by concerts, sports games and drinking parties before the grand finale on Friday: a parade in costume and music from the AGH campus to Rynek (the main square). Outside Krakow, the tradition has been taken up in many parts of the country.
