Krakow's Christmas cribs are famous throughout the country and are part of UNESCO's cultural heritage.
Krakow's Christmas szopki (nativity scenes), a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are true works of art. Every first Thursday in December, Krakow organizes a nativity scene contest in which participants of all ages present their aluminum and cardboard creations. Winners have their creations exhibited at the Krakow National Museum, while others are displayed in the city center. The museum houses 170 nativity scenes, some of which have even been exhibited at the European Parliament.
