Built in the 16th century, in Renaissance style, it looks quite lonely in the middle of the Rynek, as the place was severely damaged during World War II, and Stalinist-style concrete buildings have been part of the scenery, since the 1950s. The original building was burned in the great fire of the city in the early 16th century. The present one was erected in the years 1569-1577 according to the design of the Italian architect Bernard Niuron and the construction of the building was led by the Italian builder Jakub Parr.
