OCTOBER 2ND GARDEN
Located just behind the esplanade of the People's Palace, this garden shelters some beautiful specimens of trees and in particular immense cheese trees which take care on the places since several tens of years and ensure the shade of the principal alleys. It contains some curious constructions for children, such as concrete slides with original shapes, suspension bridges, a labyrinth, an old merry-go-round, swings, etc. After a reopening to the public in 2009 with the creation of new structures and the installation of lighting, this green setting, the last vestige of a green Conakry, is struggling to exist despite various recent renovation projects, in fact little or not realized. While waiting for better days, the garden seems to be holding its breath, trying to resist to an ever increasing urban pressure.
A few courageous joggers still venture into the few more or less maintained alleys, all in a rather strange and outdated atmosphere. You will be able to share a moment of exchange and discovery with the craftsmen still present. They work in the shade of the big trees and realize, each in their speciality, all kinds of objects. They are very available and can do anything! The work is of high quality. Note that a restaurant Chez Valentina offering among other things Eastern European specialties has opened its doors in old renovated buildings, the opportunity to spend a moment out of time on October 2.
