KOBA LAKE

An hour's drive from the center of Boffa, Lake Koba is a must-see for lovers of tropical nature and traditions. Of course, this body of water is not natural. It was created by Sékou Touré thanks to the construction of a dam to irrigate the surrounding lowlands (rice fields).

But since then, the lake has been totally integrated into the environment and is one of the most popular vacation spots for Conakrykas. Lansana Conté, the ex-president, had built there, on its northern bank, a grandiose residence. Although it is falling into ruins, it is worth the detour, if only for its position on the waterfront and the excessiveness of the place. The ex-president is buried on the spot. Little by little, around the lake, new constructions are emerging here and there, confirming the attraction of this calm and restful place. The Auberge du Lac is built on the southern shore. The lake offers to all its visitors and residents the opportunity of beautiful strolls in pedal boats or dugout canoes, but also of refreshing swims. For fishing lovers, they can cast their line with a good chance of making a miraculous catch (catfish, tilapia ...). Few fishermen are interested in this freshwater lake, as the sea is very close, so the fish thrive quietly. Note that the level of the lake does not vary much during the year, so it is easy to enter the water even at the end of the dry season.
