LAKE SAMAYA AND VILLAGES
This dam lake, with the cliffs of Mount Gangan in the background, is surrounded by many small villages, isolated from each other by the arms of the lake. On Sundays, the weekly market day, all the villagers of the area meet in Samaya to exchange their products and goods. The lake is then the scene of a waltz of dugouts converging towards the market. The welcome in the villages is warm and friendly, especially in Walyah. Staying there for a few days to share the daily life of the inhabitants is the assurance to spend unique and unforgettable moments, in all simplicity. Most of the time, we go there by dugout canoe. There is also a village hidden in a canyon with old buildings, remains of an agronomic base of the colonial period. The area is ideal for hiking with many waterfalls and natural pools to cool off in. You can swim in the lake and dive from the many rocks that border or emerge from the lake. An Eden a few hours from Conakry! There are also two monasteries in the vicinity, one created by Benedictine nuns that welcomes visitors (accommodation and food), another by brothers. Note that there are several lakes very close to each other in the area. By staying at the Holy Cross Monastery, you can discover them as well as the surrounding villages during easy and soothing walks.
