FALL OF THE SALAA
This waterfall is a tributary of the Konkoure, the Kakrima, and is nestled in a natural cirque with wooded banks and monkeys. You may be lucky enough to hear and/or see chimpanzees or baboons that are still regularly foraging along the stream lined with gallery forest. Located about 1h30 from Labé (about 40 km, a mixture of road and bad track), it is a magnificent spot for picnics and swimming and why not a place to bivouac, especially in the old camp (now abandoned). The water here flows all year round, but the period guaranteeing the most beautiful spectacle is certainly the one opening with the end of the rainy season in October/November. Access to the site is via the southern road to Lélouma; the turnoff to the waterfall is on the left about 20 km after leaving the paved road and 3 km before the village of Diari. The road on the right leads to the viewpoint of the main waterfall (1 km); the road on the left leads upstream from the waterfall to the swimming area. Be sure to notice the many cashew trees along the road. The nut grows on a large garnet and yellow fruit whose flesh is also edible.
If you have a few days available, take the time to discover the other sites in the area by taking the track from Lélouma, but also the one further north that passes through Popodara. The southern track is really very difficult.
