LE FLEUVE MILO
Go there and contact
The banks of the river are an essential place for those who want to discover Kankan. In fact, the city was first built along the river before expanding southward. From the only bridge that spans the river you can go down to the banks (only in dry season) and spend some time observing the scenes of daily life. You can also discover the famous brick kilns visible from the bridge and which are installed a little further east. They have in a way "replaced" the brick factory of the city which has been stopped for more than ten years.
But to make the most of Milo, the best thing to do is to move away from the bridge and go to the southern districts, located on the hill that dominates the city (telephone relay antennas are installed there). From a bowal where Samory used to set up his camp, you will have an incredible 180 degree panorama on Kankan and the surrounding plain. To easily find this viewpoint and other places along the river, we advise you to contact Boubacar Condé, a local resident who will show you his Kankan; an opportunity to observe the work of the sand "fishermen" and their families but also the "real" fishermen on their pirogue and to meet the inhabitants. You can reach him at +224 621 88 23 78. He will also be able to accompany you to visit the city center of Kankan to discover the craftsmen (sculptors, shoemakers, jewelers...).
