CHIMPANZEE CONSERVATION CENTRE (CCC)
The project was established in 1997 with funding from the European Union and has existed in its current form since 1999. The CCC is supported by two foreign NGOs and is represented at the Guinean level by the NGO Projet Primates Guinée. The center's team is made up of local workers and volunteers who come to support the former on a voluntary basis, mainly in the realization of daily tasks (meals, outings, maintenance of the center...). The center is located in the heart of the Upper Niger Park, several hours away from Faranah. It takes in orphaned chimpanzees, victims of illegal trafficking. The center takes care of these orphans to give them back the most natural living conditions possible with the objective of releasing the most suitable ones into the wild. Some individuals have already benefited from the release program in a specific area of the park. They are monitored remotely by caretakers thanks to collars. In 2019, an information and awareness office, which also serves as the center's logistical base, was opened in Faranah. The team works with the local population, especially the youngest, to raise awareness of the consequences of trafficking and the disappearance of the chimpanzees of Guinea. You can meet them on site or contact them at the number indicated above for more information on the actions carried out and why not to give them your support. At this time, the center cannot be visited.
