The "House of Power and Will" was built by Tamerlane for Djahangir, his favorite son, who died prematurely in 1375. Tamerlane's grief was immense and explains the construction of the mausoleum, which, according to Clavijo, was decorated in gold and azure. The entire complex was largely destroyed by the Emir of Bukhara, along with the White Palace. However, the mullahs managed to save part of it by having the Emir believe that the mausoleum of Djahangir supported that of a saint. Another of Tamerlan's sons, Omar Sheikh, is buried in the adjoining mausoleum.
