The walls of the ancient city, preserved on the west and north sides, were built by the Shah Menutsshochr in the th century and restored in the th century. The city was originally surrounded by a double row of walls, separated by moat, but today only the interior walls are left. They are still lined with gardens inside and outside, and there is a small staircase facing an active hammam. In the north-west of the old town, a majestic two-arches door allows access to a park and then to the Nizami museum.
