CHIRAG CASTLE

The ruins of the castle of Chirag stand at the top of a steep wall of 1 200 m high. It is the best preserved of this chain of defensive chains running along the coast, and that the official Azerbaijani propaganda qualifies as «Great Wall», referring to the one (more known!) north of Beijing in China. Chirag means "lamp" by reference to the lights that were lit at its summit to prevent other fortresses from the approach of enemies. With a little climbing in the rocks, you can access a platform located on the side of the castle, dominated by a slightly dilapidated but still imposing tower. The eyes then embrace the entire valley.
A road in a very beautiful countryside, at the back of the castle, makes it possible to reach a few hundred metres of the ruins, which is then reached on foot. The walk from the sanatorium at the bottom of the hill can be very pleasant, but it is still 7 km (single). However, the slope is gentle, and the road is very small, with beautiful forests and offers splendid views of the region. Walkers will find here an opportunity for hiking in a day.
