ARENY-PLANDOLIT HOUSE-MUSEUM
House museum housing a food cellar, a wine cellar, a photographic laboratory and a library
Open to the public since 1985, the Areny-Plendolit house-museum is Andorra's must-see heritage attraction. Built in the early 17th century, this stately home traces the life of the wealthy Areny-Plandolit family, a line of wealthy iron industrialists. The family lived in it from generation to generation until 1953, and took advantage of its economic success to enlarge it in the 19th century. The house reflects the family's lifestyle and social status at a time when luxury was far from commonplace in Andorran society. The façade is adorned with a large balcony, forged in 1849 in the family's own workshop. On the first floor there is a food storage room and a wine cellar. Inside, you can admire beautiful rooms such as this photographic laboratory from the beginning of the 20th century, a dining room, a reception room, a kitchen, a chapel, a library, rooms... but also valuable objects: Sèvres and Limoges tableware (a gift from the Austrian imperial family), cellars and pyres. If you like old objects, you will be served; for example, a mythical piano in the old music room. The tour ends in the garden, which separates the National Auditorium from the Areny Plandolit Museum. A visit that allows you to learn about this family as well as the history of Andorra in general.
