Cost-effective tea and pastries in a café-restaurant with terrace in the heart of Basel.

An oasis of calm and greenery in the heart of the city! This café-restaurant is one of our favorites. Its small terrace invites you to relax and read, with the lapping of the pretty fountain in the background. It is sometimes necessary to be patient to find a free place, during the day and in the evening. One comes here for the chess games between regulars and the mocking look of the monkey perched on the fountain. There is a wide selection of teas and home-made pastries at reasonable prices. In summer, the homemade iced tea is a must!

We loved this plaza with its trees, and blankets to keep outdoor diners cozy. Wonderful place to stop for a beer.

Great little cafe to get a (relatively) inexpensive lunch. The vegetable soup is excellent, and a generous bowl. The hummus was good, but mainly for the extra bread to dip in the soup. Hot ham and cheese sandwich was nice, too.

Was für ein toller Ort, das Gifthüttli hatte kein Platz und war leider ein wenig unhöflich, dannn sah ich das tolle Ambiente. Hier wurde ich freundlich bedient, hatte einen tollen Platz mit Ruhe trotz Innenstadt, richtig heimelig und ich wurde mit offenen Armen empfangen. Preise sind halt so wie es in Basel ist, also okay, aber es lohnt sich, vorallem die Empanadas. Und für all das Gesamtbild, Gastfreundschaft und das leckere essen und trinken war mir der Preis absolut wert. War das erste mal hier und sicherlich nicht das letzte Mal ❤️ Danke an die nette Bedienung von heute Abend
