Access to Pilate. When the engineer Eduard Locher in the th century thought of building a train leading to the tip of Pilate, no one believed in this idea because of the impressive slope. The prowess was possible thanks to the revolutionary process of the two horizontal rack wheels shown at the 1889 World Exposition in Paris. Opened in 1899 from Alpnachstad to 2 132 m until the Pilatus Kulm, with a slope of about 50%, it is still the rack with the steepest downhill of the world!
