OFFICE DU TOURISME DE WIL
Wil, a town in the Wil district of Switzerland, is a fascinating and charming tourist destination. Its main attraction is the Hof zu Wil, a historic monument of national importance, and the beautifully preserved old town. Other remarkable buildings include the Baron's House and the late-Gothic parish church of St. Nikolaus. Another tourist landmark is the Wil Tower on the Hofberg hill, a wooden structure with a double spiral staircase and powerful X-shaped supports. Thanks to its rich history, Wil abounds in tourist attractions. A stroll through Eastern Switzerland's best-preserved old town transports you back in time: picturesque half-timbered houses, romantic arcades and quaint lanes and squares exude a unique charm. Among the most imposing buildings in the pretty old town are the Hof zu Wil, the House of Justice (1607) with its richly decorated courtroom, and the aristocratic Baron's House (1795). In 1984, Wil was awarded the Swiss Heritage Society's Wakker Prize for the sustainable and careful upkeep of the old town's traditional architectural heritage. Wil is also the commercial, cultural and economic center of a transcantonal region. The spacious pedestrian zone presents itself as a unique promenade with attractive stores, directly adjacent to the quiet old town. But also the fine cuisine and varied cultural offerings make Wil a special experience. With the town hall on the station square, Wil has a congress and cultural center with a modern infrastructure, ideally located. Since 2006, Wil has also had a new attraction and symbol: a 38-metre-high wooden tower with a double spiral staircase on the Hofberg. Wil lies in the geographical quadrilateral between Lake Constance, the city of St. Gallen, the Alpstein mountains and the city of Zurich, making it the ideal starting point for excursions into eastern Switzerland. Swimming or water sports on Lake Constance, hiking or cycling in the Alpstein, shopping in St. Gallen or Zurich - you'll reach your destination in half an hour's drive. Wil - experience culture, enjoy shopping, hold successful meetings.
