The military barracks is now home to companies, associations and institutions
Located below the town of Altkirch and for the most part in the neighboring municipality of Carspach, this site was chosen as the site for the 8th Hussar Regiment back in 1964. This military barracks employed 191 regulars and 755 conscripts. Following the regiment's departure fifteen years ago, the barracks were converted to accommodate companies, associations and institutions. A veritable economic lung for the Altkirch region, this new industrial and tertiary zone opens its doors every morning to 600 professionals in a wide range of fields, including metalworking, laundry and engineering. The Communauté de communes d'Altkirch and Pôle Emploi have also set up offices here. The Plessier district is a fine example of architectural reconversion and has enabled the town of Altkirch to pursue its economic development.
