Built in 1872, this establishment still retains its superb setting and particularly attentive service in Geneva. The charm of old hotels is combined with a voluptuous decor, different for each room, with meticulous details, collections of plates or series of engravings. A refined English style with rococo touches in the gilded furniture, carved woodwork and elaborate chandeliers. Some rooms boast a breathtaking view of the jet d'eau. Restaurant Le Windows. A luxury hotel with typical decor.

Loved the hotel, the location but specially the staff. We felt as we knew them like family and made our experience just great. Look forward to return in the future. Everything was perfect.

J'ai adoré l'hôtel, l'emplacement mais surtout le personnel. Nous avions l'impression de les connaître comme une famille et avons rendu notre expérience tout simplement géniale. J'ai hâte d'y retourner dans le futur. Tout était parfait.

There are many great hotels .. rooms, bars and restaurants. But what separates the good and the great. It’s the staff .. always the people. The entire package of this wonderful hotel is encapsulated by ALL the team. At the outset we met Argyios. Our first room a little small. He immediately and with kindest showed us another. Perfect! A view of the Lake. We paid a little more but were thrilled. We will never forget our experience. Geneva wonderful. The Hotel d’Angleterre MAGICAL

World Class Customer Service. The staff, and I mean every single team member I came into contact with, seemed like they trained at Buckingham Palace or the like, prior to applying for work at the D’Angleterre. In fact, we were treated like nobility while there. I cannot praise them enough. Looking forward to hopefully returning soon.

When it comes to hotels, there are arguably many different definitions of luxury. Some hotels give you rooms three times the size of your own apartment (or bathrooms half the size of it with jacuzzi, Japanese toilets and what not), some give you the plushest of beds, some believe in giving you a butler, some give you lobster for breakfast, some give you an improbable location and the exclusivity of 3 or 4 rooms, and some give you 56 floors and huge numbers of rooms. The Hotel d'Angleterre has its own definition of luxury - an effort to perfect and individualise service and quite frankly, they do it very well too.||The hotel is small - four floors and about 45 rooms and suites if I remember correctly, and perfectly located on the banks of the Lac Leman, by the pier from which the "Mouettes Genevoises" go and almost across from the famous Jet d'eau. ||I was staying in a Premium room on the 4th and top floor with a lovely side Lake view. The room was large and tastefully decorated with what I'd call a Swiss version of an English decor (not something you'd actually easily find in England, but there is a long tradition of admiring English culture in Geneva and I can imagine many within the Genevan high society decorating their own homes along those lines in the first half of the 20th century). The room had a comfortable king bed, a sitting area, and a large black and white marble bathroom with combination bath. My only very minor criticism is that you can't open the curtains on the windows so if you want to actually see the lake, you need to open the windows. ||Breakfast is frankly excellent - the juices are freshly squeezed, the viande des Grisons, cheese selection and smoked salmon all excellent, the fruit carefully chosen, and made to order dishes - from crepes to oeufs a la coque are prepared with care and accuracy. Room service whilst not cheap - even by Geneva's already expensive standards - was excellent too.||Despite the excellent location and very cosy and comfortable rooms, however, what sets the hotel apart is the personal attention you get throughout your stay. Almost all of the staff seem to know who you are before you even arrive (and I'm not a famous person!). Of course the service is substantively excellent - from candle by your bath with evening turndown to someone popping up from nowhere to open doors for you at any time of the day or night and extremely thorough room cleaning, but there is another ingredient at play which matters a lot more. From reception staff to concierges, restaurant and room service staff to bellmen, gouvernantes, and cleaners, everyone seems keen to do all they can to make your stay seamless and comfortable without it coming across as obsequious or stuffy. To give a couple of examples, if you want to use the gym and sauna next door (it is not in the hotel but a partnership with a sports club across the street), reception staff will give you a little bag with towel, water, and shower gel. If you order room service and are clearly watching tv from the sofa, the room service waitress will not just leave your food on the table she has brought but offer to lay it, bit by bit, on your coffee table instead so you can continue being comfy in your sofa. And if you go down to breakfast and are helping yourself to the buffet, the waitress will take your glass of water to your table so that you can have both hands free to help yourself with the food, not to mention that before you even arrive, everyone in the hotel seems to know your name and title in a way only a small hotel like this one could achieve. It is that exceptional level of service and attention to detail even more than the luxurious location, beautiful building or soft furnishings which give the hotel its sense of refinement. ||I suppose it is best not to spend too long in this hotel or one might start taking some bad habits and get used to being spoilt and enjoyably dotted on by a whole brigade of excellently competent people, but I'll assume that there is no contra-indication to returning once in a while and in that spirit, I already very much look forward to to the next opportunity I'll have to return.
