Practical information : Take a break Geneva
Timetable
Some establishments opt for Monday as their closing day. Bars and pubs close fairly early around 11pm for the most part. The night bars may be open much later. A mid-afternoon snack is customary and the chocolate shops have something to delight you.
Budget & Tips
The prices of the drinks are in line with the destination, a little more expensive than elsewhere. A coffee (here, equal to a large coffee) costs 3,50 CHF with the small cream, beer 7 CHF, soft drinks 5 to 7 CHF, cocktails from 12 CHF.
Service is included but a tip is always appreciated.
Age restrictions
It is allowed to buy and consume alcohol from 18 years old. In the supermarkets, the identity card is systematically requested.
What's very local
It is customary, especially in summer, to join the afterworks and happy hours. The lakefront, the Jardin Anglais and the Rhone banks are filled with locals who come to enjoy themselves over an aperitif and a good Swiss wine.
The Place du Bourg du Four is the place to be in Geneva for an aperitif or a coffee. On market days, like the one in Carouge, all the bars and restaurants are packed with locals.
