Discover the origins of the world and its cultures through MEG exhibitions. A wealth of books, exhibits and objects.

An excellent museum, a must-see. From Tierra del Fuego to the Arctic, from the Bosphorus Strait to Oceania, from the Cape of Good Hope to Europe, budding explorers, citizens of the world, travelers, this museum is for you! The Musée d'Ethnographie is an invitation to travel, a window on the world, and a must-see during your stay in Geneva. The five continents are in the spotlight, and can be discovered through various themes such as writing, power, religious art, art, music, exchanges between societies throughout history, and the eyes of the first explorers discovering new cultures. The museum showcases true masterpieces from the Antipodes. The ethnomusicology department is particularly fascinating, featuring a vast collection of instruments and recordings. The museum regularly presents temporary exhibitions on a variety of themes, such as the "colonial" history of Switzerland's partnership with Germany in the 19th-century coffee plantation in the Brazilian state of Bahia, or exhibitions devoted to the environment and the various currents of activism around the world to preserve it, or an exhibition on Amazonia, shamans and the "spirit of the forest". In short, a wide variety of themes highlighting works from the museum's rich collections. Video testimonials, music, photos, models and sculptures are also on display. Like an iceberg, most of the museum disappears underground. An architectural jewel offering permanent and temporary exhibitions. Since its creation by Eugène Pittard (1867-1962), an internationally renowned anthropologist, the MEG has housed 80,000 items from fifteen hundred cultures. Not to mention 40,000 books and countless documents. To visit the MEG is to explore the world and the origins of its people. Set off on a long journey across the five continents, admiring the masterpieces of each fascinating culture.

In short, the MEG is a museum you return to again and again, to recharge your batteries and dream of your next trip before actually going out into the field. On the first floor, the museum has a small restaurant where you can stop for a snack or lunch. The MEG can be the HQ of travelers before two departures to the antipodes.

Bonne visite, on y reviendra !
