COPPET CASTLE
Overlooking the shores of Lake Geneva, the magnificent Château de Coppet is a private residence acquired in 1784 by Jacques Necker, then Minister of Finance under Louis XVI. His daughter, Mme de Staël, exiled by Napoleon Bonaparte, turned it into a European salon where all the major issues of the day were discussed. You'll appreciate the lively atmosphere that reigns in this period château, thanks in particular to the 18th- and 19th-century furniture that has remained in place ever since. A tour of the château is also available. Apart from that, the region is a must-see.
