Nyon, a city of history and festivals
As a town on Lake Geneva, Nyon is alive with the Paléo Festival, the Visions du Réel festival and the Festival des arts vivants. Nyon also recounts its rich Roman, medieval and classical past in its museums and castles.
On the shores of Lake Geneva, Nyon is surrounded by vineyards and typical villages. The hillside is home to several state-of-the-art private clinics, ideal for convalescence.
Every July, 240,000 people flock to the Paléo Festival for 6 days of concerts. Other festival-goers converge in Nyon at the end of February for Les Hivernales at various venues around the city, followed by the Visions du Réel film festival in April, the tropical Caribana Festival in June, the Festival des arts vivants in August and the Luna Classics in August.
Accessible to the public all year round, Nyon's castles and museums evoke a patrician history: Château de Prangins, the Swiss National Museum; Château de Coppet, where Mme de Staël lived; Château de Nyon and the Historical and Porcelain Museum.
As for Noviodium's Roman past, it is recounted in the Roman Museum, which recalls the important Roman town of Nyon, founded by Julius Caesar.
The town and its pleasant old town are mentioned in the "Tournesol Affair", in which Tintin, the cartoon hero born from the pen of Hergé, investigates Nyon in search of Professor Tournesol.
