Schedules are extremely variable. Many bars also serve coffee or burgers during the day. In the evening, on the other hand, they fill up with people and beers until no later than 2am. Fortunately, there are still boxes that stay open until the early hours of the morning.
In bars, the pint is not excessive compared to the price of dishes in restaurants. From there to saying that it is better to drink than eat in Lausanne, there is a step that we will not take... In moderation, there is something for every budget! As the entrance to the clubs is usually paid after midnight, the option of the ambiance bar can be more economical for those who don't want to be ambienced all night long.
Don't forget your identity card for your night out - you'll probably be asked for it, even if you look older than your years. In fact, there's no compromise with the rules here, and before the age of 18, access to clubs is impossible, as the regulations state. The same applies to alcohol consumption. A Swiss peculiarity: not all supermarkets are allowed to sell alcohol (you need a liquor license, granted by the cantonal trade police). Gas stations are simply forbidden. Finally, the delivery and takeaway of distilled alcoholic beverages and beer (this does not apply to wine) is prohibited between 9pm and 6am.
Nothing different with France either. Since 2010, it is no longer possible to shoot a cigarette in a bar. Smoking corners exist, of course.
