Founded in 1976 by the French writer Pierre Versins (1923-2001), the Maison d'ailleurs is the only museum in Europe dedicated to science fiction, utopia and extraordinary journeys. It houses a collection of over 800,000 books, as well as film posters, comic books, toys, records and works of art. Temporary exhibitions are presented regularly. A footbridge links Maison d'Ailleurs to the Espace Jules Verne. The latter houses a permanent exhibition entirely dedicated to the work of the travel writer.
