CHANNEL CASTLE

This powerful building dating from the 13th century bears witness to the rich past of the town of Estavayer-le-Lac. Built in one piece, it is reminiscent of the Savoyard style with its four round towers arranged in a square. Originally, its corners were defended by two-storey turrets and by a large tower commanding the entrance, but between 1433 and 1443, the turrets on the lake side were replaced by two brick towers. The castle was burnt down during the Burgundy wars and was rebuilt in 1503. The castle cannot be visited inside.
