Saint-Ursanne is a charming medieval town in the Swiss canton of Jura. Nestling on the banks of the Doubs River, it is often referred to as the pearl of the Jura. The town's historic center, with its 14th- to 16th-century bourgeois houses, has remained virtually unchanged over the centuries. The town's three magnificent gates, Saint-Paul, Saint-Pierre and Saint-Jean, and the bridge dedicated to Saint-Jean de Népomucène, add to Saint-Ursanne's picturesque charm. The abbey, founded by Benedictine monks, is a highlight of the town, with its 12th-century Romanesque basilica and cloister. Lovers of history and architecture will be delighted by a visit to the collegiate church and castle ruins. Nature lovers will enjoy the hiking and mountain biking trails offered by the Clos du Doubs region. Saint-Ursanne also hosts a number of events throughout the year, including the Médiévales, the Estivades and the St-Ursanne-Les Rangiers International Hill Climb.
