YENNAYER

This is the Berber New Year, which comes from Yiwen (first) and Ayer (the Moon). It is celebrated on the first day of the agrarian calendar used by the Berbers, based on the seasons and the stars. The date thus corresponds to the^{1st of} the year in the Julian calendar and January 14 in the Gregorian calendar, but in some regions it is celebrated on the 12th or 13th. This ancient festival celebrates successful ploughing and sowing. It's a very popular and convivial celebration, featuring traditional dishes and games, as well as family gatherings and events.
